Allicock, Williamson headed to Islamic Solidarity Games

Keevin Allicock and Joel Williamson, two prominent boxers from Guyana, will depart for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Friday to represent the nation at the Islamic Solidarity Games.
This prestigious multi-sport event brings together athletes from the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, and marks the second time the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee will host the Games, following the inaugural edition in Mecca in 2005.
Both Allicock and Williamson are experienced international competitors, highlighting Guyana’s growing presence in the boxing world. Allicock, a 26-year-old southpaw who recently turned professional, has a decorated amateur career, having represented Guyana at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Commonwealth Games, and various Pan American Championships.

Known for his sharp jab and tactical prowess, he is recognized as one of the Caribbean’s most technically skilled fighters. Williamson, bringing strength and resilience to the team, has also competed at the Caribbean Boxing Championships and AMBC Elite Championships, demonstrating solid defensive skills and effective counterpunching.
Steve Ninvalle, President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), expressed that the Islamic Solidarity Games will offer both athletes a valuable opportunity to face elite opponents on an international stage. He praised Allicock and Williamson for their dedication during training and acknowledged the support of Godfrey Monroe, President of the Guyana Olympic Association, for facilitating the boxing team’s participation.
The Islamic Solidarity Games are jointly organized by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA).
