Immigration Officer found with 20 Passports at his home

The Criminal Investigation Department is probing the rational behind what a Guyana Police Force Constable attache to the Central Immigration and Passport Office, was doing with approximately twenty passports at his private residence. The discovery was made last week after the police acted on information.

According to the information reaching BIG Smith Crime Watch, the rank was placed under close arrest last week after he was confronted by detectives at his place of work and escorted to his home in Stvedore Housing Scheme.

It is unclear caused the investigation to be launched but we were told that the constable was removed from his office by the detectives last week and escorted to the Criminal investigation where he was questioned before he led the detectives to his home.

On Thursday efforts to contact the Crime Chief on the matter proved futile. BIG Smith Crime Watch was told that the passport which were found and removed from the home of the police immigration officer were not machine readable ones but rather the passports which were issued years ago. Additionally the passports are all said to be expired.

It is an offence to hold someone’s passport for surety but in this case it is unclear if the passports which were found were at any time, kept under those circumstances.

The Guyana Police Force has not pronounced publicly on the matter but BIG Smith Crime Watch has been informed that the investigation is ongoing.

That has to be an administrative over-sight,,why does a lower rank have access to such sensitive documents..Passports..
