A 22-year-old woman was killed and a 28-year-old man injured after an angry driver allegedly rammed a vehicle into a group of revelers outside a nightspot at Nigg, Corentyne.
The dead woman has been identified as Manisha Burnette, a market vendor of Lot 8 Springlands, Corentyne. The injured man is Aaron Seegobin, 28, also of Springlands.
Police have detained the driver, a 28-year-old fisherman of Number 54 Village, Corentyne, in connection with the incident.
The vehicle involved, PAK 1126, is reportedly owned by a businessman of Number 78 Village, Corentyne.
According to police sources, a group of people were drinking near the nightspot when an argument escalated into a fight.
However, video footage seen by BIG Smith News Watch shows the driver of a dark-coloured vehicle reversing before deliberately accelerating into bystanders gathered outside the establishment. Burnette was among the people struck.
Police said Burnette was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Seegobin was also taken for medical attention and remains admitted.
The driver remains in police custody as investigators probe the circumstances surrounding the incident.
