A man was on Friday remanded to prison after appearing before the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Rondell Melville appeared before Magistrate Singh on February 27, 2026, where he was formally charged with possession of 3.072 kilograms of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Bail was refused, and the matter was adjourned to March 26, 2026.

The charge follows an operation conducted by officers of the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU) on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Acting on information received, CANU officers carried out a search at a residence located at Lot 20 Durban Street Lodge, Georgetown.

During the search, several parcels containing cannabis were discovered. The narcotic was later weighed and amounted to 3.072 kilograms.

Melville was arrested at the scene and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the suspected cannabis.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
