CHARGED: Charles Griffith
A miner who is accused of fatally shooting a man who chopped him was on Tuesday charged with murder.

30-year-old Charles Griffith of 65 Robb Street Lacytown, appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

The charge stated that on June 22, 2021, at Apaiqua Landing Middle Mazaruni River, he murdered Shane Blake.

The murder accused was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He was remanded to prison until July 27, when he will appear in the Bartica Magistrates’ Courts.

Facts presented by the court prosecutor stated that on the day in question, at around 05:20 hrs, Griffith went to an abandoned building where Blake was staying.

He then entered the man’s room and ordered him to put on clothes. Blake then chopped Griffith to his shoulder

In retaliation, Griffith shot Blake to his left side upper chest before making good his escape.

The matter was then reported to the police which led to the apprehension of Griffith. He was later charged with the capital offence.
