Busta Soft Drink has reaffirmed its commitment to nurturing young football talent in Guyana by renewing its partnership with the Petra Organisation for the highly anticipated sixth Annual Republic Bank Under-18 School League, set to kick off on October 19.
Guyana Beverages Inc. (GBI), Busta’s parent company, has pledged an astounding GYD$1.1 million in support for the competition. This generous contribution includes cash sponsorship, branded uniforms for all players and coaches, and match-day refreshments, ensuring an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
GBI’s General Manager, Samuel Arjoon, expressed his enthusiasm for the league’s positive impact on youth development. “Busta is proud to champion youth development through sports,” Arjoon declared. “Football is more than just a game; it builds character, confidence, and community among young people. Our ongoing partnership is a testament to our commitment to empowering youth and promoting healthy lifestyles through spirited competition.”
Co-director of the Petra Organisation,Troy Mendonca, praised Busta’s unwavering support, highlighting its vital role in the league’s growth. “We are incredibly thankful for Busta’s consistent backing, which has been instrumental in ensuring that young footballers across Guyana have a platform to hone their skills, represent their schools, and develop a lifelong passion for the sport,” Mendonca stated.
With eight participating institutions representing four regions, the tournament promises intense clashes between regional powerhouses. Defending champions Chase’s Academic Foundation are among the early favorites to take home the title.
Additionally, a coveted spot in the prestigious KFC International Schools Football Championship hosted in Guyana this December is on the line. However, there’s a twist: If Chase’s Academic Foundation wins the Republic Bank league, the international qualification berth will go to the runner-up of the league. If any other team claims the Republic Bank trophy, they will automatically secure their place in the December tournament.
