Table topping; a possibility for Amazon Warriors

– playoffs practically a certainty
The Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) are in prime position to possibly top the Caribbean Premier League standings with six matches still in the bag, ahead of their final away game tonight (September 4) in Barbados.
GAW and the Barbados Royals have played the least number of matches so far this season at four each but with the Royals languishing at the bottom of the table with zero wins and just one point, GAW can head into their home stand on Saturday on a high note; providing they take care of business tonight against the Royals.
Further, a win tonight for GAW can possibly give the squad the impetus needed for a push towards the top of the table after an even start of two wins and two losses, especially with five home games set to bowl off from Saturday, September 6.
Factoring, the major crowd support the 2023 champs usually receive on home soil and a string of good performances from the Amazon Warriors, getting six wins in six matches is in play for the Guyanese based franchise that is searching for its second title.
With Guyana currently on four points, winning all six of their remaining games will give them 16 points and they would need for both the St. Lucia Kings (SLK) and Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) to at least lose one of their two remaining matches since both teams are currently on 12 points each.
Hence, the Amazon Warriors have two pivotal games ahead, the first against TKR in their first home match on Saturday and the second, their penultimate home game against SLK on September 13. These two games might be the decider on who tops the table ahead of the playoffs which begin on September 16.
At the very least, the Warriors will want to finish second on the table simply because the chances of getting to the final are increased.
However, what is almost certain at this point in the tournament, is that the Warriors will certainly be one of the four teams heading to the playoffs for a chance to win it all; and there is no bigger party in sport like one when the Amazon Warriors are playing on home turf.
