Guyana cops FIVE medals on CARIFTA day one

Guyana grabbed four gold medals on day one of the CARIFTA Games that is being held in Grenada.

 

Team ended Saturday with four gold medals snd one silver.

 

The first gold came from 400 metres prodigy Tiana Springer who clocked 52.47s in the girl’s under-20 400 metres.

 

400 metres sprint ace, Malachi Austin deliver Guyana’s second gold medal with after running 46.01s to win the boy’s under-20 400 metres.

Guyana’s finl gold medal of the day came in the final event of the day where the quartet of Springer, Austin, Tishawn Easton and Akeela Dover ran 3:20.79s to win the mixed 4×400 metres relay.

Meanwhile , the other two medals came from Jermaine Shepherd who won silver in the boy’s under-17 1500 metres while Javon Roberts took home bronze in the boy’s under-20 1500 metres.

 

Day two will feature the 200-metres sprints along with 800 metres as well at the 4×100 and 4×400 metres relays.
