A quiet Thursday morning turned into a scene of heartbreak and devastation after two young brothers lost their lives in a horrific head-on collision along the Union Public Road, West Coast Demerara.

Dead are 21-year-old Mickel Daniels and his 23-year-old brother, Miguel Daniels, both of Lot 61 First Street, Prospect, East Bank Demerara.

The tragic accident occurred at approximately 05:30 hrs and involved motorcar PAC 9853, owned by Adeon Pritchard and driven by 23-year-old Thomas Henry of Moruca, Essequibo River.

According to reports, the car was travelling east along the northern side of the roadway at a high rate of speed when the driver reportedly lost control, sending the vehicle crashing head-on into an oncoming minibus, BWW 4493, driven by a 39-year-old man of Harlem, West Coast Demerara. The minibus was carrying several passengers at the time.

The impact was described as severe, leaving the mangled vehicles strewn across the roadway and passengers in shock and pain.

The two brothers, who were occupants of the car, were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.

They were pronounced dead on arrival.

Other injured persons, including passengers from the minibus, were admitted to the hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the deadly crash.
