Five foreign nationals were on Wednesday charged and fined for illegal entry when they appeared before the Mahdia Magistrate’s Court.

The accused are Samuel Dionisa Soares, 24, a Brazilian operator of Boa Vista; Berto Dasena, a Brazilian labourer of Marau; Yosbani Suarez Areces, 49, a Cuban operator of Boa Vista; Rafael Da Conceico Viera, 30, a Brazilian operator of Boa Vista; and Deusimar Feitosa Dos Santos, 53, a Brazilian cook of Boa Vista.

They appeared via Zoom before Senior Magistrate Clive Nurse, where the charge of illegal entry was read to them. All five defendants pleaded guilty.

Following their pleas, each was fined $30,000, with a default sentence of six weeks’ imprisonment if the fine is not paid.

The court also ordered that the men depart Guyana within 24 hours.
