A Winning Gesture! Sergeant Hakim gifts NCSS custom gears

October 22 2026
A serving Guyana Police Force sergeant has donated 16 customised football kits and branded bags to New Campbellville Secondary School, helping the institution’s Under-18 team prepare for the Schools Football Championship.
Sergeant Asif Hakim, a former student of the school, made the presentation on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, as part of an initiative aimed at giving back to the institution he credits with helping shape his life.
The kits were specially designed in the school’s colours and feature its name, logo and individual player numbers. Goalkeepers also received specially designed kits, while the players were presented with bags bearing the school’s branding.
Hakim said he deliberately chose customised uniforms instead of purchasing readily available kits bearing the branding of other clubs, explaining that he wanted the players to represent their school with pride and a strong sense of identity.
“When you walk onto that field wearing your school colours, your school logo and your school name, there is a sense of belonging and pride that comes with it,” he explained.
He added that having the players arrive with matching, branded bags and uniforms would reinforce their identity as a team and encourage unity.
Hakim described New Campbellville Secondary as an institution he holds dear, recalling the guidance and support he received from teachers during his time there.
He said returning to contribute to the development of another generation of students was particularly meaningful, noting that the school had provided a safe environment where teachers encouraged students to succeed.
The sergeant urged the players to make the most of the opportunity, reminding them of their responsibility to represent their school throughout the competition.
He encouraged them to wear their colours with pride, demonstrate discipline and sportsmanship, and give their best on the field.
The presentation was attended by Physical Education Teacher Christopher Gaskin, team coach Jersild Wright and Head of the English Department Celeste James-Williams.
Gaskin welcomed the initiative, highlighting the role of sports in helping students develop discipline, teamwork and confidence both on and off the field.
Wright, who is responsible for preparing the players for the championship, continues to guide their football development and strengthen team spirit, while James-Williams joined the occasion in support of initiatives that encourage students to balance academic pursuits with extracurricular activities.
Team captain Richard Garnett represented his teammates during the presentation.
The donation underscores Hakim’s continued commitment to his alma mater and his belief that supporting young people through sports can help foster school pride, unity and personal development.
