Police closing in on Cuban’s shooter(s)

Police detectives in Regional Division 4-A are closing in on a number of persons who they feel could provide them with answers on the shooting death of a Cuban national Thursday morning at Cummings Street during the furtherance of a robbery as he was heading to work. 34 Year old Otredis Duarte Gonzales of 321 East Street was at the time of his death employed as a butcher at the Rossignol Butchery located on Church Street.
This evening, Divisional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Edgar Thomas related that the police have been able to gather some information which they are now processing and once that is put into intelligence, those responsible for the man’s death could soon be brought to justice.
A statement from the Guyana Police Force today noted that sometime around 06:44hrs at Cummings Street between Middle and Quamina Streets, the gentleman was approached by two identifiable males on a motorcycle, one of whom was armed with a handgun.
It is reported that Gonzales was having a confrontation with the men and during that process, the pillion rider discharged rounds at him causing him to be struck to the wrist, upper chest and chin, they then fled the scene.
There are several CCTV cameras in the area and BIG Smith News Watch has been able to confirm that the police are doing some work with respect to reviewing and retrieving the footage to aid in their investigation.
Just two days ago two bandits were shot in Campbellville by a licensed firearm holder after as they were robbing a woman of her handbag. One of the bandits was killed while the other is still warded at a city hospital under police guard. In that development, social media blew with praises from members of the public who commended the shooter for his swift action.
Persons also took to social media to express their frustration as the instances of robberies where persons are being relieved of their valuables and other items which worked and acquired.
The father of the dead bandit in Tuesday’s case, as well as his mother, did indicate to the press that they have spoken to their son on numerous occasions about his life of crime and cautioned him to desist from the practice.
