The Athletics Association of Guyana will be represented by Towanna McCalmont and Natrena Hooper-Clarke at a ‘Train to Teach’ Kids Athletics Workshop in Peru from October 7-9.
The training workshop is designed for kids age 4 to 14 and is geared towards developing the physical skills of kids at an early age including incorporating physical education programmes in schools.
President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Amanda Hermonstine on Friday wished both representatives a successful stint n Peru.
“I want to wish you girls well and I know you will make the association proud; this is one more achievement for us that will assist in the development of athletics,” Hermonstine noted.
McCalmont shared her expectations of the programme, “my expectation of this workshop is to gain additional knowledge about the kids’ athletics programmed and how we can provide an active programme that will help to develop their physical skills from an early age.
“I also expect to find ways to get more young children healthy and actively involved in sports and to provide a sustainable framework for developing young talent in athletics,” McCalmont stated.
Hooper was eager for the opportunity to learn and noted that she was “excited” for the opportunity.
Hooper-Clarke and McCalmont will depart on October 5th for Peru.
