Andrew Lewis Gym intensifies training for Terrence Poole National Intermediate Championships

October 21 2025
As the countdown begins for the highly anticipated Terrence Poole National Intermediate Championships from October 25-27 at the National Gymnasium, the amateur gym is ramping up their preparation to mount a charge for the overall best gym title.
This year’s championship carries profound significance as it pays tribute to the late Terrence Poole, the revered Technical Director of the GBA who passed away in October 2024. Poole was a monumental figure in Guyanese boxing, dedicating over four decades to the sport as a coach, coordinator, and mentor, shaping the careers of countless athletes across the nation.
Under the guidance of veteran coach Lennox Daniels, the Andrew Lewis Gym has implemented an intense training regimen. Despite some fighters missing recent competitions, Daniels is laser-focused on refining their fundamental skills to ensure they’re battle-ready. “We’ve just wrapped up a tournament, and now it’s time to enhance our techniques, from club work to bag and pad training, we’re doing it all to make sure we shine,” he stated confidently.
Daniels believes his fighters are ready to rise to the occasion, emphasizing the importance of translating their hard work in the gym into outstanding performance in the ring. “I want to see them adapt and execute what they’ve learned. They’ve undergone rigorous training and mentorship, and now it’s their time to shine,” he added.
The Terrence Poole National Intermediate Championships is one of the GBA’s marquee events, offering a prestigious platform for rising stars to showcase their skills. This year’s tournament not only highlights fierce competition but also serves as a heartfelt tribute to Poole’s enduring legacy, uniting gyms and athletes from across Guyana in what promises to be a spirited and emotional celebration of local talent.
The GBA has extended invitations to clubs nationwide and calls on the public to come out and support this monumental event, honoring one of Guyana’s most respected sports figures while celebrating the vibrant spirit of boxing.
