South Ruimveldt businessman missing after MV Barima sinks

Renaldo Pickering, a businessman from South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, is among the passengers who were onboard the distressed MV Barima, which sank off the coast of Essequibo between July 18 and 19, 2026, while on a voyage from Georgetown to Port Kaituma.
43-Y-O Pickering, operates a business selling dry goods, clothing and small appliances in Region One.
His friend, Alia King, told BIG Smith News Watch that Pickering went into Georgetown on Friday morning to purchase supplies before boarding the vessel on Saturday to return to the North West Region.
King said she last heard from Pickering at about 6:08 p.m, when he sent a message indicating that the water was rough.
She added that they would normally communicate throughout his journeys whenever he had network signal, but she has not received any further messages since.
