An electrifying showdown is set to happen as Slingerz FC takes on Western Tigers in the championship of the Guyana Football Federation’s Super 16 Cup on January 1. The action kicks off at the National Training Center ground in Providence at 21:00.

Both teams fought their way to the final with nail-biting penalty shootouts. Western Tigers edged past the Guyana Defence Force, triumphing 5-4 after a tense 1-1 draw. Slingerz FC also showcased their nerve, defeating the Guyana Police Force 3-1 in penalties after another gripping stalemate.

In the semifinals, Ian Docker put GDF ahead early with a goal in the 19th minute, but Kevon Woodley equalized for Western in the 32nd, leaving the teams locked in a deadlock. Meanwhile, Ryan Hackett’s first-half strike for the Police in the 45th minute was answered dramatically by Kemar Beckford’s equalizer for Slingerz in the 70th.

Mark your calendars for January 1, when these two rivals clash for the title, while the GDF and Police will battle it out for third place starting at 18:30.
