Police are investigating an alleged homicide involving 89-year-old pensioner Lackandai Tamessar of Ogle Airstrip Road, East Coast Demerara.

The incident is believed to have occurred sometime between Friday, December 26, 2025, at about 16:00 hrs and Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at approximately 13:00 hrs, at the woman’s residence.

A police report revealed that the deceased was last seen alive on December 26, 2025, when she was visited by a relative.

On Tuesday, December 30, the same relative returned to the residence and discovered Tamessar lying motionless, with what appeared to be stab wounds about her body.

The body was escorted to the Plaisance Health Centre, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty.

The remains were subsequently taken to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where they are awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

An 88-year-old man, identified as the deceased’s husband, who was present at the location at the time of the discovery, was arrested and placed in police custody as investigations continue.

Police investigations are ongoing.
