Timely Delivery of Housing Projects High on CH&PA’s Agenda

— CEO Dr. Martin Pertab conducts site visits along Soesdyke-Linden Highway
October 5, 2025: Newly appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA), Dr. Martin Pertab, on Friday toured several key housing projects along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway, including the Hauraruni and Yarrowkabra Homestead developments, as part of efforts to ensure the timely delivery of infrastructure and homes.
Dr. Pertab, accompanied by CH&PA engineers and a surveyor, met with contractors to assess ongoing works and discuss challenges being encountered on-site. He emphasized that these visits are crucial to maintaining open communication and addressing potential issues early, especially as the government advances its ambitious 2025–2030 goal of expanding homeownership across Guyana.
The CEO acknowledged that smaller and newer contractors face various hurdles and highlighted the importance of strengthening their capacity. At the same time, he reminded larger contractors of their obligation to maintain high performance standards.
Dr. Pertab also indicated plans to meet directly with delinquent contractors, stressing that any delay in infrastructure works can trigger a chain reaction—affecting the installation of utilities and ultimately preventing families from moving into their homes.
“In a housing scheme, the end objective is to ensure occupancy,” Dr. Pertab stated.
“They (beneficiaries) wouldn’t occupy if there’s no road, no water or electricity.”
The Hauraruni Project is expected to deliver over 400 Young Professional homes, with land preparation nearly complete and work on roads and drainage progressing steadily.
Meanwhile, at the Yarrowkabra Homestead Project, 200 prefabricated homes are under construction in the first phase of a $6 billion initiative spearheaded by President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali. The development will eventually comprise 500 homes and integrates housing with agriculture and renewable energy, featuring shade houses and solar systems designed to empower single mothers and women-led households.
Through these proactive engagements, Dr. Pertab reaffirmed CH&PA’s commitment to ensuring that every project stays on schedule — so that more Guyanese families can soon realize their dream of homeownership.
