Residents of Region Five are set to benefit from the allocation of 1,000 house lots on June 5 as the government moves to reduce longstanding housing application backlogs and expand home ownership opportunities in the region.

Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal announced that the “Dream Realised” housing allocation and title distribution exercise will be held at the Shieldstown Cricket Ground in Mahaica-Berbice.

According to the minister, the initiative forms part of the PPP/C Government’s commitment to addressing pending housing applications and improving access to land ownership across the country.

Croal revealed that more than 300 applicants who were unable to receive allocations during a previous exercise held in October 2024 due to capacity limitations will now be prioritised. He said the 304 affected applicants are included among the 1,000 allocations planned for the upcoming exercise.

The minister further assured residents that all pending housing applications submitted on or before December 31, 2025, are expected to be addressed by the end of 2026.

In addition to the allocation of house lots, the Ministry of Housing and Water will distribute more than 450 Certificates of Title to residents, strengthening security of tenure for homeowners in communities including Experiment and Plantation Shieldstown in Blairmont.

Croal disclosed that over 300 processed titles from Experiment and another 145 from the Blairmont Shieldstown area will be handed over during the exercise.

He said the initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on expanding access to land ownership and improving housing opportunities for Guyanese families.
