FORENSIC TEST MATCHES GUN FROM OPPOSITION LEADER’S VEHICLE TO SCENE OF POLICE CHIEF’S HOME GUNFIRE

A shell casing retrieved outside the Barr Street, Kitty residence of Special Branch Chief Prem Narine has been positively identified as having been discharged from the un-serialised Taurus .32 handgun discovered inside the car transporting Opposition Leader Azruddin Mohamed and two employees.
The forensic laboratory finding was formally disclosed during proceedings before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman by Special Prosecutor Terrence Williams KC.
Law enforcement officers stopped the automobile carrying Mohamed and his aides following reports of shots near Narine’s property, bringing all three men into custody at the Kitty Police Station. A sniffer dog unit deployed to examine the vehicle uncovered the .32 weapon and three live cartridges concealed under the gas pedal. Forensics teams gathered a spent .32 shell from the roadway outside, four 9mm spent casings from within Narine’s compound, and recorded three impact marks on the vehicle’s frame.
State attorneys assert that weapon fire originated from within the car toward the Superintendent’s property. Mohamed’s legal counsel strongly rejects that account, asserting that zero rounds were dispatched from their automobile and alleging lawmen planted the weapon at the station house.
The defense subsequently published security video attempting to demonstrate officers discharging rounds at the vehicle as it proceeded down the street. That publication prompted a separate internal investigation that resulted in the detention of a 20-year-old Constable accused of unauthorized extraction of security feeds from the Police Command Centre.
