November 6 2025
The National Indoor Senior Open Hockey Championships delivered compelling performances across multiple divisions on night two of action at the National Gymnasium on Wednesday evening, with established powerhouses asserting their dominance while emerging talent signaled their championship credentials.
The open women’s competition produced impressive offensive displays, with GBTI GCC delivering a commanding 7-2 victory over National Over 40. GBTI’s attack was relentless, with Abosaide Cadogan orchestrating a clinic in clinical finishing, recording five goals across the 40-minute encounter (4th, 27th, 29th, 29th, 30th minutes). Rebecca Ferreira contributed two additional strikes (37th, 39th), providing the supplementary firepower that overwhelmed the Over 40 defense.
National Over 40, despite the loss, demonstrated resilience through Maria Munroe and Shebeki Baptiste, who managed two goals each to prevent a shutout.
In a contrasting result, Saints and Old Fort produced a stalemate, playing to a nil-all draw in a defensive showcase that contrasts sharply with GBTI’s goal-heavy offensive approach.
Meanwhile, Old Fort Inferno edged Hikers 4-2 in a balanced matchup, with Carolyn Deane commanding the scoreboard with two late-game goals (37th, 40th). Minsodia Culpepper and Keitanna Percival contributed one goal each, establishing Old Fort’s attacking rhythm. Hikers’ Marisha Fernandes (30th) and Latoya Rogers (40th) provided spirited resistance but fell short of overcoming Old Fort’s tactical execution.
However, the standout performance of the women’s division on the night came from National Over 40, who delivered a comprehensive 9-0 demolition of Hikers. The victory showcased balanced scoring, with Maria Munroe leading the charge with three goals (7th, 15th, 38th). Kerensa Fernandes contributed two (15th, 17th), while Vanessa Pires added two (28th, 37th). Shebeki Baptiste and Tiffany Solomon completed the scoring with one goal each (32nd, 40th), demonstrating Over 40’s depth and consistency throughout their attacking formations.
The men’s second division witnessed decisive victories from both Saints and Old Fort, signaling clear intentions for the championship stage.
Saints delivered an emphatic 5-0 victory over Hikers Cadets, demonstrating superior tactical discipline and finishing efficiency. Baraka Garnett was the standout performer, recording two goals (14th, 23rd) to anchor Saints’ commanding display.
In a tighter contest, Old Fort overcame GCC Outlaws 3-2, with Yonnick Norton proving decisive through two goals (20th, 28th). Daniel Alleyne contributed the opening strike (7th), establishing Old Fort’s early momentum. GCC Outlaws mounted a spirited comeback through Aldo Melendez (5th) and Grant Fernandes (18th), but Old Fort’s experience ultimately prevailed.
The action continues for the remainder of the week with subsequent matches scheduled to determine ultimate champions across all divisions.
