Sophia man received death threat days before execution

Four nights before he was gunned down in Sophia, 56-year-old Courtney Younge had a violent altercation with a man who threatened to kill him.
This is one of the leads that detectives are pursuing as they seek to identify the individual who blasted Younge with a saw-off shotgun at around 10.00 P.M. on Thursday in ‘D’ Field, Sophia.
Younge, a labourer of Lot 643 ‘D’ Feld, Sophia, was allegedly consuming alcohol with a man who had employed him, when the shotgun-toting man rode into the yard on a bicycle.
The intruder then shot Younge near his left collar-bone before escaping. Younge was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation.
There are indications that the victim knew his killer, and his murder stemmed from an incident four nights prior.
Big Smith News Watch understands that on Monday 18, a man entered Younge’s yard in search of him. Younge allegedly confronted the intruder and ‘broadsided’ him with a cutlass.
The man retreated, but not before reportedly threatening to kill Younge.
Police who visited the scene of the shooting recovered a toy gun and questioned several people, but are still to apprehend the suspect.
They are also set to examine the footage from security cameras in the area.
