Diligent and meticulous work, including but not limited to re-interviews, revisits to a crime scene, and a re-look at the evidence, coupled with the incorporation of new evidence, police detectives in Berbice, Region 6 have been able to arrest three people and secure a confession in the murder of Port Mourant pensioner, Kamaluddin Abrahim known as the ‘The brown Clothes Man.”
Three suspects, ages 29 through 45, will be arraigned in court next week. They are accused of murdering Kamaluddin Abrahim on the night of June 30, 2023.
He was 73 years old.
The suspects have been identified as Darwin Trim, Premchand Ramsohai, Rajendra Balkaran
The men who were picked up by the police have reportedly detailed their crime during a confession statement.
All three suspects were acquaintances of the now deceased, based on information this publication has been able to confirm.
The men reportedly visited Abrahim’s home, observed a sum of money on his table, and requested some, he refused to give them any.
Angry over that, they beat him to a state of unconsciousness and then took possession of $45,000, which was on the table.
The men told detectives that they then placed the pensioner in his unconscious state at a location at the Rose Hall foreshore, where they then further beat him until he was dead.
On the night they committed the crime, it was raining heavily, making visibility difficult for people in the area to notice their movements.
On July 1, 2023, Abrahim’s sons, the only two children he had, filed a missing person report with the police after showing up at his home and realizing that something was amiss, as he was not there, and they were unable to contact him.
Three days later, the badly decomposed remains of a human were found at the Rose Hall foreshore.
The remains were later identified as those of Kamaluddin Abrahim by one of his sons.
Days later, a postmortem was conducted, but the results were inconclusive due to the advanced state of decomposition.
In 2023, several people were arrested for questioning in relation to the murder, but the police could not link any of them to the crime.
One of the suspects who reportedly confessed to the murder was among the people initially arrested.
Ibrahim’s son has expressed relief that the family will finally receive justice, even as the police are encouraging the public to cooperate in bringing justice to many other persons whose case closures depend on public information.
