East Bank tournament deemed a success by Wilson

Franklin Wilson – Tournament Organiser

The East Bank Inter-Village Football Tournament may have started as a community competition, but organiser Franklin Wilson believes its impact could stretch far beyond village bragging rights.

With the inaugural edition now complete, Wilson sees the tournament as proof that grassroots football can thrive when communities are given something meaningful to support. “This football tournament was a resounding success,” Wilson said.

Twelve village teams, strong nightly attendance, intense competition, and widespread community involvement turned the event into one of the more compelling local football spectacles in recent months.

More importantly, it provided players outside mainstream football circles with a rare opportunity to showcase their talent.
Wilson believes that type of exposure is essential for football development.

“There is talent in these communities. What players need is opportunity,” he said. The East Bank competition highlighted the appetite for decentralised football; events rooted in community identity rather than traditional club affiliations.
That formula proved effective.

Supporters embraced the concept, villages rallied around their teams, and the competition maintained its intensity throughout.
Wilson believes this could be the start of something far bigger.

“We can build on this and create something even stronger moving forward,” he said. If that happens, the East Bank tournament may be remembered not simply as a successful event; but as the spark for a wider grassroots football revival
