Strip club-goers wanted  for breaching curfew

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly on Thursday issued summons for 29 club-goers who were caught at Baroombar- a strip club breaching the COVID-19 curfew.

Those charged are Hebron Edwards, Ramnarace Suenarine, Destiny Edwards, Donnel Hopkinson, Mark Greene, Shamar Hescott, Chidera Muoneke, Selena Jacobs, Jermain Tobin, Whitney Wright, Mikhail Adams, Shannella Small, Lawrence Browne, Sonika Brummell, Folona Perry, Sarah Mcpherson, Henderson Jordan, Eric Sam, Nikisha D’Angoy, Jon-Bon-Jovi Albadar, Dwayne Hopkinson, Andy Williams, Melinda Singh, Denzil Charles, Keenan Charles, Ryan Griffith, Travis Lewis, Kimesia Walcott, and Nicola Green.

It is alleged that on July 10, 2021, at Baroombar, North Road Georgetown, they breached the COVID-19 regulations. The party-goers were reportedly informed that they had to attend the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Thursday to answer the charge. However, none of them showed up.

This prompted the magistrate to issue summons notifying them to attend court on August 26. Failing to appear on the next court date will result in arrest warrants being issued for them.

According to reports, on the day in question, ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) were on patrol duties during which they made several checks to ensure that nightclubs and bars were adhering to the curfew measures to safeguard against the spread of COVID-19.

However, when they arrived at the North Road location, members of the Guyana Fire Service were seen cutting a steel door to get access to the patrons inside Baroombar. All of the club attendees were escorted into the GDF bus and then to the Police station. Charges were soon after brought against them.

The Guyana Police Force is appealing to citizens to adhere to the curfew and to further report breaches to the COVID Task Force hotlines: 626-6674, 624-3067, 624-2819, and toll-free (GTT) 0180.
