Guyana’s Ashley Khalil and Mary Fung-A-Fat secured a silver medal after finishing runners-up in the women’s doubles competition at the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games in the Dominican Republic.
The Guyanese pair were defeated in the final by Colombia’s Laura and Paula Tovar, who claimed the title with an 11-1, 11-6 victory.
Khalil and Fung-A-Fat struggled to find their rhythm in the opening game but delivered a more competitive performance in the second. Despite showing greater composure, they were unable to force a deciding third set.
Their place in the championship match came after an impressive semifinal win over Guatemala’s Tabita Gaitan and Darlyn Sandoval earlier in the day.
Attention now shifts to the team competition, which begins on August 6. Guyana’s women will open their campaign against Mexico at 18:30hrs.
