Guyana Eyes Quick Recovery After Opening Defeat in FIBA AmeriCup Pre-qualifiers

Kevin Mickle steps to the line for two shots during his game high 24-point performance.
Guyana will be seeking an immediate response tonight after opening its FIBA AmeriCup Caribbean Men’s Pre-Qualifiers campaign with a 68-55 defeat to Turks and Caicos on Wednesday at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.
Kevin Mickle delivered an outstanding individual performance despite the loss, leading all scorers with 24 points while collecting eight rebounds and three steals. He shot 52.6 per cent from the field but struggled from the free-throw line, making four of his 11 attempts. Mickle was the only Guyanese player to score in double figures.
Kevon Wiggins contributed nine points, although he found it difficult to establish a consistent rhythm after shooting 4-of-14 from the field.
Turks and Caicos relied on a balanced attack, with Ethan Taylor finishing with 16 points and Travante Garland adding 11 to steer their side to victory.
