Woman nabbed at Ogle airport with cannabis, fined $101,000

A woman was on Monday fined after pleading guilty to a narcotics trafficking charge following her arrest at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport.
Doris Joseph appeared before Magistrate Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, where she admitted to possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking, namely 338 grams of cannabis. She was ordered to pay a fine of $101,000.
According to the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), the interception occurred on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Eugene F. Correia International Airport. Officers, acting on intelligence, stopped an outgoing passenger bound for Region One (Barima-Waini), which led to the discovery of a bulky parcel containing the cannabis.
Joseph was subsequently arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters along with the narcotics. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
