Crime Chief- Deputy Commissioner
Lyndon Alves

Deputy Commissioner Law Enforcement Lyndon Alves on Wednesday advised Commissioner of Police Leslie James that no numbers registered to police ranks were

thus far found in any of the mobile phones which were found in the possession of three bandits who were killed in May of this year.

The commissioner made the comment after being contacted by Big Smith Crime Watch for a comment on the matter.

However notwithstanding his comment, the commissioner indicated that he was also advised by the crime chief that the analyzing of the phones have not yet been completed.

By mid-morning on Wednesday, Minister of Public Security Khemraj Ramjattan told the media that he wants to see a thorough investigation into claims by an alleged police whistle blower that the numbers of police ranks who are engaged in criminal activities were recovered from the mobile phones which were recovered from the crime scene in May.

According to the minister, given the gravity of the claims and alleged illegal acts as was reported he would like to see the matter investigated and the truth come out. Ramjattan said that this can be done by ‘surmounted by goo detective work’

“I have not been briefed by the commissioner of police and in the security sector in every country you would have some complicity sometimes with rouge elements in law enforcement and criminals, if that is the case here, I would not be surprised, I would want a further investigations to verify its truthfulness and authenticity and of course to get those who may be involved, criminally prosecuted. It is illegal” Ramjattan told the media Wednesday morning.

One day after the bandits were killed in Berbice Big Smith Crime Watch also received information that the numbers for policemen were found in the mobile phone which were in the possession of the dead bandits. On June 02, 2019 at a press conference, hosted by the Commissioner of Police, a specific question to that effect was raised as well as the tracing of the telephone records of those phones where recovered at the crime scene and the Top Cop promised to provide details on the matter at a subsequent press conference.

The Security Minister on Wednesday said that the phone numbers for police or anyone can be found in the mobile phones of criminals but then there will also be the task of providing complicity between the police and criminal and that is why he wants the matter investigated.

Meanwhile as he calls for the matter to be investigated to get to the bottom of the claims being made, BIG Smith Crime Watch has been reliably informed that the police has taken an approach similar to that of ‘shooting the messenger’ where they are on the hunt for whistle-blower who is said to be a member of the Guyana Police Force.

The alleged whistle blower has also claimed that the ranks who numbers were found in the phones the bandits had in their possession, receive protection from a very senior member of the force who is based in Georgetown, at Police Headquarters.

The dead bandits who have been wrecking havoc on the Corentyne Coast were killed in an exchange of gunfire with the police. After the dust settled, the police recovered a number of mobile phones, weapons, ammunition, bulletproof vests and a large quantity of cash. The police have not yet released any information as to if the weapons were linked to any previous crimes.
