Freak storm walks through parts of Corentyne, takes off roof in the process

The roof of Razack missing
A freak stop that hit parts of the Corentyne Coast in Berbice on Wednesday morning has left at least three families from Number 36 Village estimating structural damage caused to their homes. At least two of the families had their homes partly destroyed.
One resident Dian Razack whose home suffered the brunt of the storm noted that just after 07:00 Wednesday she was with her sons, ages 2 and 10 when she heard a loud noise coming from the backyard.
Upon going to investigate the unusual sound, she noticed a swirling wind coming in their direction. The woman recalled taking her two sons and immediately sought shelter in her home but by the time she looked back, her entire kitchen roof was completely ripped off and her dining area was in chaos.
The woman said that her sons were slightly injured in the process of the swirling wind which sent zinc sheets and other materials flying into the air and onto the ground as they rolled together with the wind.
Estimating her damage, the woman explained to this publication that her price tag may stand at $500,000 for damage caused to items such as her refrigerator, blender, and television among others.
During a visit to the location by this publication, a second family whose house was also damaged in the process this morning had already reassembled their roof which was blown off during the high winds.
Diane Henry said she was doing her morning choirs when the incident occurred. She recalled seeing the swirling wind from a distance with sparks also coming from the utility poles in the area.
However, by the time she informed her husband of what was happening in order for them to exit the house, the roof came off.
She was, however, able to reassemble the roof in time to prevent further damage to other household items from rains which persisted for most of the morning.
