13-Y-O drowns at Jubilee Resort on birthday

Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the death of 13-year-old Ray Stuart Jr. at Jubilee Resort and fun park, Timehri, East Bank Demerara. The incident occurred at about 11:00h on Republic Day. The teen was taken to the resort by his father in the company of relatives and friends to celebrate his 13th birthday.

According to a statement from the police, ranks of the Timehri Police Station were called to the resort at 11:45h. Police were told that the teen who does not know to swim, was in the pool with his father and relatives. It is alleged that he ventured into the deeper side of the pool and went under the water unnoticed.

After his father observed him missing, an alarm was raised and other relatives began searching for him, in and out of the pool. Stuart’s body was found in the pool under the water by a relative. He was immediately rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was seen and examined by Dr. Afare who pronounced him dead on arrival.

The body was examined by police for marks of violence but none was seen.

Investigations are in progress.
