Calder was on trial for the killing before Justice Gino Persaud at the High Court in Essequibo. The charge against him stated that on April 12, 2007, he unlawfully killed Joseph Willy, called “Jeff-man”.

Following the guilty verdict, Calder was remanded to prison. He will be sentenced on March 09, 2021. The case for the prosecution was presented by State Counsel Lisa Cave.

According to media reports, on the day in question, Willy chased after Calder and attacked him with a cutlass. Calder fired a shot at him before making good his escape. Calder was only arrested for the crime in 2016.
