Five Brazilian nationals were each fined $30,000 and ordered to leave Guyana within 24 hours after pleading guilty to illegal entry charges at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The accused were identified as Elvis Maques De Souza, 29; Derick Pereira De Suza; Delroy Batista, 29; Hentony Gabriel Silva, 26; and Hosana Gomes Da Silva, 45, all of Boa Vista, Brazil.

They appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir via Zoom, where they admitted to entering Guyana by crossing a land frontier without immediately presenting themselves to the nearest Immigration Officer.

The offence is contrary to Section 34(1)(b) of the Immigration Act, Chapter 14:02.

Following their guilty pleas, the magistrate fined each of them $30,000 and ordered that they depart Guyana within 24 hours.
