Moruca Boat crash victim laid to rest

Adrian Thomas, a devoted educator who tragically lost his life in a boat accident on the Moruca River earlier this month, has been laid to rest.
Thomas, aged 18, formerly taught at St. Beeds Primary School and resided on Kumaka Road in Santa Rosa.
He was one of two teachers who perished in the incident, the other being Helen Raybai of Waikrebi Village in the Moruca Sub-Region.
The accident occurred when a passenger boat, operated by Thomas and powered by a 75HP outboard engine, collided with a Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Coast Guard vessel in the Moruca River, Region One (Barima-Waini), on a Friday morning.
The passenger boat, carrying four occupants, including Raybai, her child, and Thomas, was en route to Charity when the collision transpired during a turn made by the GDF boat. Tragically, Raybai and Thomas lost their lives in the collision, while the baby and the other passenger were transported to the Charity Regional Hospital for medical treatment.

Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal, attended the funeral and expressed heartfelt sympathies to the grieving families and loved ones affected by this devastating tragedy.
He emphasized Mr. Thomas’s invaluable contributions to education and his profound impact on the lives of students and colleagues alike. Minister Croal’s presence at the funeral service underscored the government’s commitment to supporting and standing in solidarity with the community during this difficult time.
