Three employees of the Transport and Harbours Department (T&HD) have been charged with murder in connection with the deaths of passengers aboard the ill-fated MV Barima.

The charges were instituted following legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Those charged are Kevin Price, called “KP”, 40, the vessel’s Captain of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara; Rondell Dwayne Roberts, 42, the Chief Mate of Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara; and Delon Granderson, 33, the Goods Superintendent of Fellowship, West Coast Demerara.

The trio appeared on Tuesday before Chief Magistrate Judy Latchman at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, where the indictable murder charge was read to them.

They were not required to enter pleas and were remanded to prison.

The case has been transferred to the Charity Magistrate’s Court and was adjourned to August 3, 2026.
