The National Assembly has approved $17.5 billion in supplementary funding for the Ministry of Housing, providing a major boost to the Government’s ongoing national housing programme.

The funding, approved under Supplementary Financial Paper No. 1 of 2026, forms part of the $54.9 billion supplementary allocation piloted by Senior Minister in the Office of the President with Responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh.

Minister of Housing Collin Croal and Minister within the Ministry of Housing Vanessa Benn were present in Parliament to support the supplementary financial paper.

According to the Ministry, the additional funds will accelerate the development of new and existing housing schemes, advance critical infrastructure works, and support the Government’s target of constructing 40,000 new homes during its current term in office.

The supplementary allocation comes in addition to the $159.1 billion approved for the housing sector under Budget 2026 and reinforces the Government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable housing, increasing homeownership opportunities, and improving communities across Guyana.
