Minister Manickchand Engages Caledonia/Good Success NDC on Improving Service Delivery

September 24, 2025 – Georgetown — Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Hon. Priya Manickchand, on Wednesday visited the Caledonia/Good Success Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen local governance and improve services to citizens.

During the visit, Minister Manickchand met with NDC officials and staff to examine operations, identify gaps, and discuss solutions. She emphasized the government’s vision of building “beautiful communities with effective management and accountability, where the lives of citizens are made easier because government services are more responsive.”

The Minister inspected the district, pointing out issues such as a dilapidated sign at Craig Nursery School, an under-maintained playground, and areas with overgrown vegetation. She stressed that addressing such challenges requires collaboration, noting that “it’s an every-citizen effort, not just government or the NDC or RDC alone, but rather a collective responsibility.”

One major issue raised was the Single Window System at the NDC, which is currently down. Minister Manickchand said protocols must be established to ensure its proper functioning, given its importance in streamlining approvals for building and extension works.

She also highlighted the need to ensure that NDC staff feel valued in their roles, while residents feel the impact of the services provided. “If a complaint is made, it must be dealt with expeditiously and effectively,” she said.

The Minister further revealed that government is examining the development of a dashboard system that will allow for real-time tracking of complaints at both local and central levels. This tool, she explained, would not only monitor issues but also ensure they are resolved efficiently, so that residents experience a tangible government presence in their daily lives.

Minister Manickchand reaffirmed her Ministry’s commitment to supporting NDCs in delivering people-centered governance and responsive services across Guyana.
