CH&PA warns contractors against burning construction waste

August 17 2026
The Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) has reminded contractors that the open burning of vegetation, construction waste and other materials is strictly prohibited at all project sites.
The Authority has instructed contractors to immediately stop any open burning and extinguish existing fires.

The prohibition covers the burning of vegetation from land-clearing and site-preparation activities, discarded formwork and timber, construction debris, packaging materials and other construction-related waste.
CH&PA said open and unregulated burning is prohibited under the Environmental Protection Act, Cap. 20:05, with breaches potentially resulting in fines, imprisonment and other legal sanctions.
Contractors are required to regularly collect, remove and properly dispose of construction waste in keeping with CH&PA’s Waste Management Plan and the requirements of their respective project contracts.
The Authority also warned that contractors found breaching the directive will face applicable contractual penalties.
