Labour Minister Meets with U.S. Ambassador to Strengthen Workforce Cooperation

September 24, 2025 – Minister of Labour and Manpower Planning, Keoma D. Griffith, on Wednesday welcomed U.S. Ambassador Nicole Therriot to his Brickdam office, in a meeting that underscored the longstanding friendship between Guyana and the United States.
The discussions focused on building a modern, resilient workforce, with emphasis on expanding skills training opportunities, strengthening occupational safety and health standards, and encouraging innovation in workforce development.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry, both Minister Griffith and Ambassador Therriot reaffirmed their commitment to creating pathways that will benefit workers, employers, and communities across Guyana.
Guyana and the United States have shared close ties since May 26, 1966, the day of Guyana’s independence. Even before independence, U.S. engagement in then–British Guiana included the establishment of naval and air bases during World War II.
Today, those historic bonds continue to evolve, paving the way for greater cooperation, mutual growth, and sustainable development.
