GPL to explore power infrastructure projects

Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) has signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pacific & Auro Power Inc. to establish a framework for identifying, evaluating and developing potential power sector infrastructure projects in Guyana.
Pacific & Auro Power Inc. is a joint venture between a local company and a multinational company.
The agreement was signed on behalf of GPL by Head of the Executive Management Committee, Kesh Nandlall, and creates a non-exclusive framework for collaboration between the two entities. It does not commit either party to finance or undertake any specific project but outlines a process for jointly identifying and assessing priority projects for possible future development.
Under the MoU, GPL and Pacific & Auro Power Inc. will explore opportunities in key areas including transmission and distribution infrastructure, substations, power generation, renewable energy, battery energy storage systems and grid modernisation.
GPL said each proposed project will undergo separate technical, commercial, financial, regulatory and corporate evaluations before any implementation can proceed. The utility noted that, as a non-binding agreement, neither party is obligated to move forward with a project unless a separate definitive agreement is executed.
According to GPL, the collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to pursuing strategic partnerships that support the expansion and modernisation of Guyana’s electricity infrastructure while ensuring future investments align with the country’s long-term energy priorities.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Nandlall in the presence of Divisional Director Ryan Ross and Deputy Chief Executive Officer Bharrat Harjohn.
GPL said it remains committed to building partnerships that strengthen the resilience, expansion and long-term sustainability of Guyana’s electricity network while supporting the country’s continued economic growth.
