Two men are in custody after a quantity of suspected cocaine was discovered during an operation at Newtown, Enmore, East Coast Demerara.

The discovery was made on Tuesday during a search of a residence occupied by a 34-year-old unemployed man. During the search, authorities reportedly found several whitish rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine in the washroom area of the property.

A further search of the premises led to the discovery of a quantity of cash believed to be linked to the sale of narcotics.

The 34-year-old occupant and a 29-year-old man, who was also at the residence, were taken into custody. The suspected cocaine, consisting of 26 pieces, was later weighed and amounted to 10 grams.

In a separate incident on the same day, a quantity of suspected cannabis was discovered at Britton Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara.

The suspected narcotic was found inside a black plastic bag concealed among vegetation along the northern parapet. It contained leaves, seeds and stems and weighed approximately 86 grams.

No one was taken into custody in relation to the Plaisance discovery.
