Pensioners to benefit from electricity subsidy

June 4 2026
Guyanese pensioners eligible for the Government’s annual electricity assistance programme will receive their 2026 subsidy during June, according to the Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL).
GPL announced on Thursday that eligible postpaid customers will see the $30,000 subsidy reflected as a credit on their June 2026 electricity bill. Eligible prepaid customers, meanwhile, will have the subsidy deposited into their prepaid wallet and can access it by visiting any GPL Commercial Office.
The annual G$30,000 electricity subsidy forms part of the Government of Guyana’s initiative to support senior citizens by helping to offset the cost of electricity, providing financial relief and improving affordability of an essential service.
GPL said it is pleased to facilitate the programme, noting that the initiative continues to deliver tangible benefits to pensioners by easing household expenses and contributing to their overall well-being and quality of life.
The utility company also thanked customers for their continued cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to providing reliable and efficient service across Guyana.
