Two damage to property charges against Rondell Bacchus called “Killa” was dismissed on Wednesday after he opted to compensate the Guyana Police Force (GPF). Last week, 40-year-old Bacchus was slapped with two charges over damaging a vehicle belonging to the GPF.

Then, he had pleaded not guilty to both counts.

However, on Wednesday, Bacchus appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where the parties opted to settle the matter. Bacchus was ordered by the Chief Magistrate to pay compensation in the sum of $32,455, as well as $2,000 in court costs.

On April 9, 2021, at the Brickdam Police Station, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously damaged a windshield valued $24, 561 on a motor vehicle bearing registration number PYY9785. It was further alleged that he damaged a triangular glass on the said vehicle, valued at $32,000.

Bacchus was arrested and released on station bail as investigations continue into the execution-style killing of  Kitty, Georgetown gold dealer Ricardo Fagundes who was killed by two gunmen in front of the popular Main Street, Georgetown nightspot, Palm Court in March 2021.

According to reports, on the day in question, when Bacchus was being escorted from the lockups by Police ranks he maliciously damaged the vehicle. Bacchus was released from Police custody about two weeks ago after the 72- hours period for which he could be held expired.

On April 6, last, the Police issued a wanted bulletin for Bacchus for questioning concerning the murder. A few hours later, the wanted man turned himself in.  After questioning, he was released on $100,000 station bail. He is required to report to the Police station on specified days as the probe into Fagundes’ killing continues.

Bacchus previously appeared in the High Court and pleaded guilty to unlawfully killing scrap metal dealer Akbar Alli in 2008.  He was recently released from prison having completed serving a sentence of more than 10 years for the crime.
