Durban St. Drive-by shooting claims second life

Lawrence Wayne, one of the persons shot on Saturday morning August 24, 2024, during a drive-by shooting in Durban Street Lodge, died on Sunday morning August 25, 2024, while receiving medical attention for injuries sustained.

Wayne was shot in the abdomen and arm during the incident which has left several persons nursing gunshot wounds and which resulted in an initial one fatality. Wayne’s death now brings the number to two.

Yesterday the police reported that they recovered the car that was used in the drive-by shooting. The car according to the police, was stolen from a woman a short distance from where the shooting took place, just a moment before.

Wayne was charged some years ago with the murder of a man who had robbed his business establishment. The magistrate had upheld a no-case submission and he was freed on that charge but rearrested after the DPP reintroduced the charge. In the High Court, a jury found him not guilty, and he was allowed his freedom.
