UPDATE: Police say six persons were hit in drive-by shooting
The Guyana Police Force in an official statement on Saturday August 24,2024 confirmed a drive by shooting incident on Durban Street that has left one man dead and others injured.
The dead has been identified 40 Year old Market Vendor Anthony Havescomes of South Ruimveldt who was hit multiple times as a result of the shooting.

Others injured are 25 Year Old Travis Ceres, a Vendor from East La Penitence who received one gunshot wound to the lower abdomen; 38 Year Old Teon Allen called Spoil Child, an unemployed man from Sophia who received a gunshot wound to his left shoulder; 31 Year Old Stanley Matthews, a Labourer from Sophia who received a gunshot wound to his left hand and one on the left thigh; 33 Year Old Destra Auther, a Vendor from East LaPenitence received a gunshot wound on the left leg and 39 Year old Lenox Wayne, a Security guard from Turkeyen received wounds to his right thigh and hand.
All persons were at the time attending an All Back Party at Lot 23 Durban Street Lodge when the shooting occurred.
The host of the party told police detectives that a he heard loud explosions and noticed a black motor speeding off in a westerly direction.
According to him, several persons were placed into vehicles and taken for medical attention as they were injured in the process. Investigations are ongoing.
