ECD Police find four firearms in three days

A series of coordinated operations along the East Coast Demerara has resulted in the recovery of four firearms, along with ammunition, cash and other items, as multiple suspects remain in custody.
On April 19, 2026, two separate operations led to the seizure of two firearms within hours.
At Hope Estate, items recovered during a late-night exercise were lodged at the Cove and John Police Station, including a suspected air rifle along with six 12-gauge cartridges and forty 9mm rounds of ammunition.
Four persons—a 55-year-old farmer, his 51-year-old wife, their 26-year-old son, and his 23-year-old partner—were detained in connection with the find.
Earlier that same day at Lusignan, a suspected 9mm pistol with eight live rounds was recovered and taken to the Vigilance Police Station following the detention of a 19-year-old Venezuelan national.
On April 21 following an armed robbery at a restaurant in Mon Repos, where two business operators were relieved of cash, a high-value cellular phone and other items by suspects who fled the scene on motorcycles.
A phone dropped during the escape was later recovered and lodged at the Beterverwagting Police Station.
Acting on intelligence, ranks conducted a follow-up operation in Georgetown during the early hours of April 22, leading to the arrest of several suspects and the recovery of two additional unlicensed 9mm pistols, each with magazines and ammunition.
Officers also discovered two XR motorcycles believed to have been used in the robbery, a quantity of cash suspected to be stolen, multiple knives, a toy gun, and other items.
