$790M Yarrowkabra Secondary School Commissioned

President Dr. Irfaan Ali officially commissioned the Yarrowkabra Secondary School, Thursday afternoon (September 5, 2024.)
The state-of-the-art facility, built at a cost of $790 million, will accommodate 550 students from seven previously closed primary tops, including Hauraruni, Laluni, Long Creek, Kuru Kururu, Dora, Low Wood, and Susannah’s Rust. Additionally, students from Supply, Covent Garden, and Providence Primary Tops now have the opportunity to attend secondary school at this modern institution.
Yarrowkabra Secondary School is staffed by 65 teachers, including 29 newly recruited educators.
Among them are 31 trained teachers, 14 currently in training, and 20 slated to begin training soon.
The school boasts a range of modern amenities, including three science labs, eight smart grade 7 classrooms, a library, and TVET labs.
With a total of 1,019 students across 35 classes, the school is equipped to provide a comprehensive education.
President Ali highlighted the school’s significance, emphasizing its role in supporting families, particularly single-parent households.
He noted that establishing such a critical facility aligns with the government’s broader agenda of ensuring excellence in education within every region.
The president also reiterated the administration’s commitment to achieving universal secondary education, with a focus on digitizing education to address challenges in subjects like Mathematics.
However, due to the increasing number of students, an additional 10 classrooms are needed to meet the growing demand.
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand stated that bids have already been extended for the construction of these classrooms, underscoring the government’s dedication to providing quality education for all, noting that once the school is here, children will come to school, and once the children are in school, lives will change.
