Police are investigating a tragic road accident that claimed the life of 35-year-old Tameshwar Sukhcharan of Albion, Berbice. The fatal incident occurred around 17:40 hrs on Wednesday, June 11, along the Dun Robin Public Road in Corentyne.
The collision involved a motor pick-up (GAK 1990) driven by 30-year-old Andrew Johnson of Lamaha Park, Georgetown, a motorcycle ridden by Sukhcharan, and a parked motor lorry (GLL 9958) owned by a Yakusari, Bush Polder resident.
Police reports indicate that the pick-up was traveling east at a reportedly high speed when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle. The pick-up subsequently struck the stationary lorry parked on the southern parapet.
Sukhcharan was pulled from the trench by bystanders and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body has since been taken to the Arokium Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is pending.
The driver of the pick-up, Andrew Johnson, sustained a fractured femur and multiple abrasions. He was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital and is currently hospitalized in stable condition.
