A 25-year-old businessman from Corentyne, Berbice has been remanded to prison after being charged with multiple offences stemming from an incident involving a 20-year-old woman in East Canje.

Karran Sukhan, a Guyanese national of Indian descent, was arrested on June 12 and formally charged the following day with Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Threatening Language, and Threatening Behaviour.

The charges relate to an incident that occurred on June 6, 2025, at Lot 143, #2 Village, East Canje, Berbice. The alleged victim has been identified as Jonna Ramator, a 20-year-old housewife of the same address.

Sukhan appeared before Magistrate Mathias at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court on June 13, where he pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He was remanded to prison and is scheduled to return to court on June 23, 2025.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
