The police in Regional Division 4-C placed a female police constable under close arrest Tuesday after initial evidence implicated her in an offence of simple larceny.

BIG Smith News Watch has been informed that Woman Constable 25700 Nelisha Mahaica who works at the Mahaica Police Station, between June 29 and July 06, 2021, reportedly withdrew $500,000 from the Republic Bank Account of colleague.

It is unclear how Mahaica got her hands on the colleague’s bank card and moreso, how she managed to come by the password for said card.

Question by police detectives, Police Constable Mahaica reportedly told ranks that she has an ability where she knows how to hack bank accounts and passwords and that is how she was able to access the account of her colleague and withdraw the $500,000.

The police listed Mahaica’s address as lot 54 Farm Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara. She was placed under close arrest just after 16:00hrs Tuesday afternoon.

Police sources indicated that it is not the first time that the constable has been fingered in a dishonest act of this nature and that back in 2018, she was again the subject of a simple larceny probe involving the disappearance of money from one of her colleagues.

In this latest case, the funds withdrawn by Mahaica was done at the Triumph Branch of Republic Bank.
